Bloom
Published in Paperback by Dell Pub Co (December, 1987)
Author: Margaret Mitchell Dukore
Average review score:

Not unlike Erica Jong's books
Ms. Bloom, the main character, lives with her husband in Hawaii. She's a crazy, drunken manic depressive. She bottoms out on her behavior, leaves her husband and gets her own life. It's the ups and downs of a beautiful young woman in the early 80's, but speaks to woman anywhere.

A lot of good philosophical stuff; I still think about it. I still quote passages from the book while with friends. Ms. Dukore is a thoughtful woman.

I recommend this as reading for anyone who can't get enough of "The Bell Jar," by Plath and anything by Jong. Happy Reading!

BLOOM IS FIRST
BLOOM has to be the greatest book I have ever read.Margarets senses of humor is hilarious.I will pass this book along to friends, but I will request I get it BACK!!!!

Blue Thunder
Published in Audio Cassette by Simon & Schuster (Audio) (December, 1990)
Authors: Thomas Burdick and Charlene Mitchell
Average review score:

Blue Thunder swerves just short of the finish
Well researched and eye opening, Blue Thunder, perhaps in an attempt to appear too responsible pulls its punches or fails to see the big picture. Briefly Don Aronow, speedboat racer and manufacturer, was a good friend of then Vice-President but running for President George Bush who helped Aronow get the Customs contract for drug interdiction "Blue Thunder" Speedboats. He ended up murdered gangland style just prior to his being called to testify before a federal grand jury, a fact no one outside of the federal government could have known. Curiously, Aronow was also partners with Donnie Soffer (employer of Donna Rice of Gary Hart fame and the ill-fated "Monkey Business" yacht) as well as Ben Kramer, drug smuggler and nephew of Meyer Lansky. Something rotten in Miami? You bet your Janet Reno. R. Roy Blake 14200 First Avenue South #202, Burien, WA 98168

Thrilling, Enlightening, and Scary!!! A true eye operner!!!
This book will have you pinned to your drop out bolster seats while it navigates the treacherous waters of La Cosa Nostra, Money, Drugs, Politics, and the excercise of Power!!! Expect to feel shivers and astonishment at the scope and depth of organized crimes influence throughout our society!!! Follow the rise and fall of the world's most prolific and successful high speed boat builder and racer. Investigating the assasination of Don Aranow leads the author down an intentionally muddied river filled with danger. George Bush, J. Edgar Hoover, Myer Lansky, Lucky Luciano, John Kennedy, Alan Cranston, Sammy Davis Jr., James Caan, Fidel Castro, King Hussein, Gary Hart, Baby Doc Duvalier, Manuel Noriega, Jeb Bush, and Janet Reno are a few of the names that will turn up with curious connections to the octopuss known as Organized Crime!!

The Bottom of the Harbor (Modern Library Audio Series)
Published in Audio Cassette by Living Language (March, 1998)
Author: Joseph Mitchell
Average review score:

Excellent 1940-50's New York waterfront life short stories
Informative and very well-written short stories about life near and on the New York waterways in the 1940-1950's. A thoughtful and seemingly kind writer...I will definately read more of his work.

Exquisite portraits wonderfully written
There are so many good things I could say about The Bottom of the Harbor. Mitchell's writing style is clean easy to read without lacking in depth and texture. The stories themselves are fascinating and off beat.

But the best part of the book are the characters Mitchell writes about. They come alive through his portrayals and you will find yourself thinking about them, their thoughts, and their ways of life long after you stop reading.

The book contains six separate stories, each about 40 (short) pages long, so you can absorb them at your own pace without losing the thread. Personally, I had a hard time putting the book down.

Clear Pond: The Reconstruction of a Life
Published in Hardcover by Syracuse Univ Pr (Trade) (July, 1991)
Author: Roger Mitchell
Average review score:

Window to the past
For anyone already bitten by the genealogy bug, this book will chart a familiar path. For anyone who is contemplating undertaking research on their family's history, read this first: it captures perfectly the passion and the curiosity that propels the researcher in what is often a confusing and frustrating quest, with many dead ends. More important, Mitchell manages both to give personality and character to his long-dead subjects, and to make the time and place in which they lived come alive for us. It is "human" history on a personal scale.

A Historical Detective Story
Roger Mitchell is a poet, not a professional historian. He became intrigued, even obsessed, by a random historical question. This is a book, not only about a place and its people. It is an account of an author's passionate search for an answer. In a quest for an old-time Adirondacker, Mitchell investigated the history of one, rather ordinary, Yankee family in the Adirondacks. His poetic narrative provides a profile in microcosm of authentic Adirondack culture. This book is already a classic of Adirondack literature.

Colonising Egypt
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (March, 1988)
Author: Timothy Mitchell
Average review score:

A Derridean Orientalism
Mitchell's writing, as stated in the reviews, takes the scholarship begun by Heidegger and continued by Derrida and Foucault and applies it to his critique of 19th century colonialism. The ideas of deconstruction and its fight to overturn both complete objectivity and the hope of "overcoming the system" lead Mitchell to demonstrate that the West and its objectivity is rooted in as much subjectivity as any other cultural perspective. It is this Western rationale that brought European colonialists to impose their values and hierarchies onto the Oriental system, bringing the power structures of Foucault's discourses to the fore. Whatever conclusion you come to take from the book, and Mitchell's arguments are exceptionally convincing, you will certainly not leave its pages with the same mindset you entered.

An excellent critical work
This is an excellent critical work that powerfully engages how the Western colonising project unfolds, and it utilizes Egypt as its main centerpiece. Mitchell is a master when it comes to observing how divergent mindsets prevent the West and East from understanding one another. His use of Foucaldian and Derridian paradigms for describing the experience of modern power in Egypt and process of mutual discovery are amazing, entertaining and insightful. As a Western student living in the Middle East, this work compelled me to question my own mindset, lifestyle, and perceptions. This is a very important book that I would recommend to any intellectual who desires to understand colonialism and/or relate to Egypt and the Middle East.

Contemporary's Number Power Review: Whole Numbers to Algebra
Published in Paperback by NTC/Contemporary Publishing (May, 1996)
Authors: Robert Mitchell and Kathy Osmus
Average review score:

Contemporary's Number Power Review is Very Good, Not Great
This book is easily read by students who need to brush up on their math for business or for academic tests. I have been using the book in my classes for 2 years. The only problem is that the authors have mixed the subjects in such a way that there isn't a direct flow from one topic to the next and some of my students find it difficult to keep up. They seem to forget the previous chapters and don't understand where everything connects. I reccommend this book to anyone who wants to brush up, but not to someone who isn't familiar with the topics.

All In One Place: Whole Numbers to Algebra!
All In One Place: Whole Numbers to Algebra! Contemporary's Number Power Review: Whole Numbers to Algebra

Where do teachers go when they want to review basic math with students-everything from whole numbers to algebra? Give Contemporary's "Number Power Review: Whole Numbers to Algebra" by Bob Mitchell a try!

I am a high school special education/alternative education teacher in Oregon, working with special needs youngsters.

"Number Power Review: Whole Numbers to Algebra" gives a clear, concise overview of basic math including algebra. The book is an excellent resource for students as a basic life skills class or as preparation for the GED and SAT tests. An invaluable resource!

The pages in "Number Power Review: Whole Numbers to Algebra" are laid out clearly, very clearly in worksheet format, and are easy for the student to negotiate. Plenty and frequent opportunity is given for students to check their understanding. This is one of the strengths that sets apart "Number Power Review: Whole Numbers to Algebra" from other textbooks. Here, students don't have to suffer through pages and pages of instruction before their comprehension is tested. Students will find the book engaging, trust me. I recommend "Number Power Review: Whole Numbers to Algebra" without reservation! A great bargain for the price.

Diagnosis and Troubleshooting of Automotive Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Systems (3rd Edition)
Published in Spiral-bound by Prentice Hall (10 October, 2000)
Authors: James D. Halderman, Chase D., Jr. Mitchell, and Chase D. Mitchell
Average review score:

Automotive Electrical Systems
I use Halderman's book as the primary source in automotive electrical training in a classrom setting. ASE study guides are good for revue but presume knowledge of the subject. OEM training materials that I have used are either too basic (Mister Electron) or too specific (GM CS alternators).

Best automotive book I've ever read
This is the first book I've ever read that tells you "WHY" you are doing something and how each component is constructed in "plain english". Once you understand what each part is and more importantly, how each part connects to each other and how they work as a team. Better than any ASE test book, better than a Mitchell manual, this book starts from the basics and you learn how everything works from the inside out. Full of diagnostic tips you don't find in most books, telling you how to use the most simple of tools to test the electronic systems with ease and accuracy. THIS IS ONE SUPER BOOK FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO UNDERSTAND THE MODERN ELECTRONIC AUTOMOBILE WITHOUT A HARVARD DEGREE IN ELECTRONICS !

A wonderful daily workout for your spiritual mind
If you want a daily uplift but find little time to read in the morning, use this book. Each thought could be a discussion for the day. Thoughts that will help guide you with every decision you make. Each wisdon quote a little deeper a little closer your to spiritual peace. The mix of Masters quoted in here is proof to me that the message remains the same only the messagers change.

a book of spiritual riches meant to be savored
This lovely short volume contains nuggets of wisdom each of which could provide a day's worth of contemplation. Many of the sources come from non-western sages and mystics. There are many books of wise quotes out there but few as profound and beautiful as this carefully selected volume of mystical profundity.

Fair Injustice
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (30 August, 2000)
Authors: Mitchell Bailey and aka "The Mick" Mitchell Bailey
Average review score:

Fair Injustice...bold concept in literature
This story will scare the hell out you...read it once, read it twice. A well written, almost poetic style that does not mince words, it's almost like looking in the mirror...sometimes you won't like what you see. Anyone with at a least a modicum of patriotism and fairness will enjoy this book. A good read, fast paced and down to earth. It is not for everybody...(... very graphic, but not vulgar...) Hope to see more from this author....

eye opener!
Very fast read. I enjoyed the story and characters...very descriptive!! Almost like being there. When this book gets discovered, will be best seller! The reality is frightening, but very entertaining. I like the style.
